Compare two different techniques

Contactless surgical technique

Entire operation of myopia will do laser beam in two phases, the only other device we use in the beginning is fine stabilizer of eyelids which holds the eye open during the operation, from this moment only laser beam “works” on the surface of the cornea, when, cooling solutions and drops is applied afterwards and cornea is covered with contact lenses.

The following video is raw recording of the entire operation of one eye with -4.00 diopters by non-contact method. Detailed description of the procedure is in the video.

LASIK surgical technique

With femto LASIK, respectively LASIK it is necessary after loading eyelid speculum to latch on to the eye vacuum metal ring, on which other instruments are fixed. In classical LASIK it is a knife - a microkeratome,  in femtoLASIK (video) it is a femtosecond laser cone. The cornea is than pushed into the plane, the pressure in the eye rises rapidly, a laser beam or blade creates corneal superficial layer 100-150 microns thick (flap), vacuum ring is released, corneal flap is put aside and excimer laser changes curvature of uncover bare cornea.  Flap is put back and cornea washed by cooling solution. Visible bleedings are common in this method..

Comparison table

Minimizing the trauma on the eye

Supreme comfort for patient and surgeon. There is no need to cut into the cornea, there is no need for vacuum instruments, it is not necessary to press to distort the cornea, there is no need to use alcohol to remove the corneal epithelium or mechanically traumatize cornea.

Vacuum instruments must be attached to the eye, press to plane the cornea, the eye pressure rises rapidly, structure of the cornea is weakened forever because corneal flap will never firmly reattaches to the underlying corneal tissue.

The risk of complications

During contactless surgery, there are no serious risks, healing is rapid and postoperative complications such as formation of haze in the cornea is eliminated.

During the operation, serious complications may occur in the creation of corneal flap, which may not allow surgeon to correction diopters. Postoperative complications such as inflammation within the cornea, dry eye syndrome, wrinkling of the flap and epithelial ingrowth under the flap can reduce visual acuity and require reoperation.

Lasting effects

There are no visible traces of the operation on the cornea after healing is finished,  the strength of the cornea is altered only slightly. Corneal lamella (flap) formed by femtoLASIK, respectively Lasik never firmly attaches to the cornea. For the rest of life corneal strength decreases by up to 50%, this is associated with the risk of serious postoperative complications, such as corneal ectasia. More or less visible scar is present on the surface of the cornea.

Price

Price reasonable to advanced technology, experienced surgeon and excellent result of the operation. Price is unreasonably high, because it is necessary to finance two lasers instead of one, with the same result of the operation.
